One of the many valuable services provided by our library system is that of tutoring. Sno-Isle Libraries System contracts for this service from a company called BrainFuse. They provide a suite of academic assistance products for library members. There is no charge for this service. It is free to the membership. Membership in the library is free.
The Sno-Isle Libraries System provides the following tutorial services:
Online, one-on-one homework help. This is real-time and is in the form of a live chat. Students type their questions and a tutor assists them with their questions.
Skills building. This service is designed to help students master core academic skills and is tied to the state-aligned programs. Tutors work on the basics and will guide the student through a lesson designed to reinforce what the student has already been learning in the classroom.
Writing lab. This can be done in real-time, and operates much the way as the homework help works. Student may submit a paper, and it will be returned with constructive comments within 24 hours. Yes, within 24 hours. This is not limited to students. Adults can get help with cover letters, and resumes.
Test Center. This contains a series of tests in subjects students may be studying. It contains sample tests. For example, there are tests for 6th grade mathematics and 12th grade chemistry. If the student has a problem in taking tests, this is a good place for practice.
FlashBulb. This is a new and fascinating enhancement for the tutoring program. It is a library of flashcards on a wide variety of subjects, including accounting, culinary arts, real estate, languages, and even the graphic arts. An added plus is the member may create flash cards of his or her own.
It is interesting to note that for 2011, the System had over 76,000 visits to these tutoring services. Need some help with something? Just check in at www.sno-isle.org .
